Review and Taste Test: Designer Whey is the whey to go!

I’m all about some protein. If you are an avid reader of Cherie Runs This, or you just so happened to stumble upon the right post, you would know this. You’d also know that I’ve tried my share of protein powders, drinks, bars, etc., and time and time again have come to the conclusion that I have one favorite and one favorite only and should never stray from it again.

But, calling myself adventurous {haha}, I am up for trying new things and even new protein items. So when FitFluential offered me the opportunity to review some Designer Whey protein products, I was all in. I wasn’t sure how it would go, given the last review I did of a protein powder {ick, cough, cough, gag}, but I was going to go into this one with an open mind.

The box of fun arrived. There was so much stuff in there! I couldn’t believe it. I was like, “Seriously?! I get to try all this?! I really hope it’s good!”

I’m no good at holding in my feelings until the end. I FRIGGIN’ LOVE THIS STUFF. All of it. Every last fabulous piece in that box. Alrighty, now that I got that out of the way, let me back up and go item by item.

designerwhey protein bar
The very first item I had was one of the protein bars. 10 grams of protein in a bar and they’re 170 calories or less–that is a deal! This way, I get my protein and don’t have to worry that I’ve just put a zillion calories back in by eating a candy bar in disguise–calcium, Vitamin C, B-vitamins are all in there as well! The flavors they come in are Chocolate Caramel Crunch, Triple Chocolate Crunch and my faaaavorite, Peanut Butter Crunch. They sent three to sample, and once those ran out I’ve been going buck wild trying to find more. Four different stores and I haven’t tracked them down yet. Sooooo good but so hard to get my hands on!

designerwhey protein 2 go
I grabbed a pack of the Protein 2GO next–the Mixed Berry. It was in a little pouch similar to those instant low calorie drink mixes, but this kind is different. Hence the name… it has protein! 10 grams as a matter of fact  and only 50 calories. I mixed it right at my desk with about 8 ounces of water. The taste was surprisingly good–as were the Lemonade and Tropical Orange flavors.

designerwhey protein shake
The next day, also at my desk, I busted into one of the High-Protein Shakes. I go to the gym to lift weights right after work four times a week, so usually sometime around 4pm, I’ll have a whey shake to get my pre-workout protein into my system. On this day, I grabbed one of these pre-made shakes. They don’t have to be refrigerated, but I kept mine in the office fridge until I was ready to guzzle it. I prefer them cold! It was delish! They also come in a Gourmet Chocolate flavor which is tasty too, but for once, I think I prefer the vanilla over the chocolate.

And now for my heart of heart’s…the protein powder. I have a whey protein shake every morning when I first wake up to kick start my metabolism, so I go through it pretty quickly. Because of this, I was ecstatic to be sent two flavors to test out–the White Chocolate and French Vanilla {they have many other flavors, too!}. I’m not even a white chocolate kind of a girl, but it was yummy! Again, usuallly I’m not a vanilla person, but I fancied that flavor, too!!

designer whey pinappilla colada recipe

I even created a special shake with the French Vanilla powder. I call it the Pinappilla Colada!

PINAPPILLA COLADA
1 cup almond milk {or whichever milk you prefer}
1/4 cup pineapple pieces
1/4 cup 2% cottage cheese
1 scoop Designer Whey French Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
A handful of ice cubes

I added all of those items to my blender, mixed it all up and poured it in my glass. Voila! With the products I used {and yours will vary if you don’t use the exact same products I did} the shake was 250 calories, 26 grams of protein, 27 grams of carbohydrates. Excellent after a workout that includes weights and cardio like mine did!

So again, I should learn to never say never. I swore I’d never review protein powders again and swore I’d never like any other protein other than my favorite brand. Well folks, Designer Whey certainly gave my fave a run for its money. I was BEYOND happy with this product and do believe I now have a second favorite brand! And now…if I could just get my hands on those elusive Peanut Butter Crunch bars all will be well in my world. 😉

Do you have a favorite protein brand? Which one of these looks tastiest to you?

***I reviewed these Designer Whey products on behalf of a FitFluential Campaign. I was not compensated in any other way other that in receipt of these products. All opinions are truthful and my own.

  • It all looks sooo good. I am a fan of Muscle Milk because of a dairy intolerance. I would definitely try these though

  • That is so cool you get to try this stuff out for free! How long had you been blogging before these opportunities started coming your way? Did you have to do anything or do companies approach you? I’d like to get to this level!
On another note, thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking that I really need to buy some protein powder and start making shakes, but it’s hard to know where to start. I just went to their website and bought their 2013 starter kit. It includes one each of those protein bars too. I can’t wait to get it!
